WHAT? The Club incorporated in March 1998 and worked with the City of Duluth to be able to reside in the former Lester park Library . A contract was signed in June 1999 and the club was ready to move forward.
The club now has a membership of 300 plus family, single, business and organization memberships – people with interest in the Lakeside-Lester Park neighborhood. These members have volunteered their time in a variety of ways. All of this points to a strong foundation and great commitment. Funding of the club is provided by memberships, rentals, donations and fundraisers.
WHY? Membership in the Club offers participation in constructing a vision for community growth and the means to bring that vision to fruition. The building is also available for event rentals. It provides rental space, for such things as, a convenient meeting place for neighborhood nonprofit groups, birthday parties, showers, classes, scrapbooking, rummage sales, grad parties, family gatherings, reunions, etc.. The club also provides the residents of these neighborhoods a stronger voice on city issues or situations that should require neighborhood input.
TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE? Not really. But the Lakeside-Lester Park Community Club will continue to succeed only with support and enthusiasm of its members. Every action is important, large or small. Each action makes a stronger and healthier community.
